5:27 You go near so that you can hear everything the Lord our God is saying and then you can tell us whatever he ¹  says to you; then we will pay attention and do it.”

Ulangan 6:2

6:2 and that you may so revere the Lord your God that you will keep all his statutes and commandments ²  that I am giving ³  you – you, your children, and your grandchildren – all your lives, to prolong your days.

7:22 He, ⁴  the God who leads you, will expel the nations little by little. You will not be allowed to destroy them all at once lest the wild animals overrun you.

[6:2]  ² tn Here the terms are not the usual חֻקִּים (khuqqim) and מִשְׁפָּטִים (mishpatim; as in v. 1) but חֻקֹּת (khuqqot, “statutes”) and מִצְוֹת (mitsot, “commandments”). It is clear that these terms are used interchangeably and that their technical precision ought not be overly stressed.

[6:2]  ³ tn Heb “commanding.” For stylistic reasons, to avoid redundancy, “giving” has been used in the translation.

[7:22]  ⁴ tn Heb “the Lord your God.” See note on “he” in 7:19.

[13:18]  ⁵ tn Heb “commanding” (so NASB, NRSV).

[13:18]  ⁶ tc The LXX and Smr add “and good” to bring the phrase in line with a familiar cliché (cf. Deut 6:18; Josh 9:25; 2 Kgs 10:3; 2 Chr 14:1; etc.). This is an unnecessary and improper attempt to force a text into a preconceived mold.
